Dr. Drew D. Munro was born in Rhode Island at the Newport Naval Hospital and grew up on Navy bases around the country. Like his father and grandfather before him, Dr. Munro also serves in the military as a Flight Surgeon with the Army National Guard. Dr. Drew D. Munro attended the University of Virginia and graduated with a degree in English Literature. He received his medical degree from Duke University where he also had a one-year research fellowships with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He completed an Internal Medicine internship at VCU returning to Duke to finish his residency in Ophthalmology. His fellowship training in Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery also took place at Duke University, including rotations at the Duke Aesthetic Center and Oxford University with a focus on cosmetic facial plastic surgery techniques.
Dr. Munro joined Commonwealth Eye Care Associates, located in Richmond, Virginia, in 2018. He is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in comprehensive consultative services, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), oculoplastic consultation and surgery, and orbital and reconstructive consultation and surgery. Dr. Munro's professional interests include the evolution of aesthetic and reconstructive surgical techniques, as well as diseases of the eyelids such as Ocular Cicatricial Pemphigoid. His research has resulted in a number of journal publications and presentations at national meetings. Dr. Munro is available to see patients in personalized consultation and on referral for medical and surgical eye care.
